Leap Orbit Re-Enters Prescription Monitoring Market, Acquiring RxGov

Columbia, MD — September 19, 2023 — Leap Orbit, the innovation partner to market-leading health data networks, announced today that it has re-acquired the RxGov Prescription Drug Monitoring Platform (PDMP), which it sold to NIC in 2018. NIC is now a part of Tyler Technologies, a leading provider of integrated software and technology services to the public sector.

“We’re delighted to have PDMP back in Leap Orbit’s portfolio of cloud-based healthcare solutions—it feels like a homecoming,” said David Finney, a partner and cofounder of Leap Orbit. “This transaction also comes at a critical time, as the substance use disorder crisis continues to shift and evolve at a rapid pace.”

Leap Orbit also announced that Christie Frick has joined the company as the Director of Prescription Management Solutions. Prior to joining Leap Orbit, Christie served in an analogous role at Tyler. With extensive experience as a pharmacist and in drug control, Christie also led the Prescription Monitoring Program in her native South Carolina for eight years.

“Christie’s a natural doer-leader, making her a perfect fit for Leap’s culture of tackling healthcare’s biggest challenges head-on,” added Mrinal Bhasker, Leap Orbit’s other partner and cofounder.

RxGov improves access to clinical data pertinent to a patient’s medication history and the risk factors associated with substance use disorder through the capture, analysis, proactive monitoring, and interoperable sharing of a state’s prescription dispense details. The platform is currently implemented statewide in Maryland, Nebraska, and Utah. The Province of New Brunswick, Canada, is also in the process of going live with RxGov.

RxGov is the only PDMP solution designed and tested to track all medications, not just controlled substances. This positions RxGov to capitalize on the increasing recognition by policymakers of the benefits of prescription-monitoring tools beyond tracking a limited list of drugs of concern like opioids. RxGov puts comprehensive, up-to-date medication history information in the hands of clinical decision makers using a cost-effective public utility model. This approach affords a range of benefits over expensive proprietary medication data services.

Leap Orbit is excited to once again be a sponsor of the 2023 National Association of Controlled Substances Authorities annual conference, held this year in Minneapolis in October. Attendees interested in scheduling a briefing or RxGov demo, please contact Christie at cfrick@leaporbit.com.
